Florida House of Representatives

2018 General Election November 6, Districts 28, 29, and 30 (Seminole County and Part of Orange)

Action Alliance for Progress is proud to endorse Lee Mangold, Tracey Kagan, and Joy Goff-Marcil as Florida State House Representative for their respective districts. These candidates give voters the opportunity to undo the effects of years of misrepresentation and, in some cases, outright corruption at the hands of a Republican-elected officials. Republican incumbents in these three districts have consistently sold out to corporate and radical, right-wing special interests. T
Their calling cards have been corporate tax giveaways, diminished healthcare, weakened environmental protections, abdication of their responsibility for consumer protections, and failure to address gun violence....

Lee Mangold – Florida House of Representatives, District 28

A cybersecurity expert with a Ph.D. In computer science, business owner Lee Mangold has developed defensive training and cybersecurity technologies for our military and law enforcement agencies designed to keep our soldiers and first responders safe in the line of duty.  In addition to involvement in several non-profit organizations, he is co-founder of the Florida Cyber Alliance with a mission to educate our citizens about cybersecurity and to build a sustainable workforce in this growing and important field.  A proponent of ethical and progressive government in service to citizens over special interests, Mangold’s purpose in seeking office is to usher in an era of evidence-based legislative decision-making to support social betterment.  Action Alliance for Progress welcomes Mangold’s rational and scientific approach to issues including education, healthcare, environment, the economy, and common-sense gun legislation. Considering the cyber threats to our elections, as well as our personal privacy, we believe his professional expertise will be particularly useful in the legislature. AAfP is especially pleased to endorse Lee Mangold for House District 28.

Tracey Kagan – Florida House of Representatives, District 29

With experience as a public defender in New York City and in the Seminole County State Attorney's office, Kagan has been a successful criminal defense attorney for the past 20 years. She has represented thousands of people and is in the courts every day ensuring that the rights of Floridians are protected. Her expertise with the criminal justice system has given her an understanding of the system’s shortcomings as well as challenges faced by law enforcement, social workers, mental health professionals and those who are working to improve our community. Kagan serves on the board of the Jewish Pavilion, a support service for seniors in the Longwood/Central Florida area, as well as on the Leadership Committee of SPARK, an organization that fosters education and empowerment among Orlando Jewish women. She is also active in the RAISE program by employing adults with special needs. The mother of three daughters who have attended Seminole County public schools, Kagan is a strong proponent of public education and school safety, including common sense gun regulation. Kagan’s reputation as a no-nonsense defender of individual rights positions her to be a significant upgrade over incumbent Scott Plakon in representing her constituents over special interests and lobbyists, and Action Alliance for Progress heartily endorses Tracey Kagan for HD 29.

Joy Goff-Marcil – Florida House of Representatives, District 30

Joy Goff-Marcil brings two terms of legislative experience on the Maitland City Council to her bid for the Florida House, serving most recently as vice mayor of the city. As a city council member, Goff-Marcil helped pass stronger legislation to protect wetlands and promote responsible development. She also supported Maitland in joining a lawsuit with 20 other Florida cities to fight for the right of Florida cities to discuss and enact firearm legislation. With her degree in political science and 25 years of experience as a local lawyer, Goff-Marcil has the technical knowledge to make good legislative decisions and to defend the home rule rights of cities and counties, one of her top priorities. Before being elected to the city council, she volunteered hundreds of hours at local schools and helped to start multiple community initiatives, including the Walking School Bus, the Learning and Cultural Committee for the Maitland Public Library, Healthy Maitland morning walks, and Communities Putting Prevention to Work at the local level. Goff-Marcil wants Central Florida to lead the way in Tallahassee to fully fund public education and invest in teachers, expand Medicaid to bring healthcare to more Floridians, protect waterways and stop tax breaks for polluters, and enact gun safety legislation. Goff-Marcil’s credentials, experience, and accomplishments make her the superior choice for Florida House of Representatives District 30 and AAfP is honored to endorse her.
